A little history of remote work! How did we get here? Remote work is not new, and it’s just growing in popularity thanks to technology and the Internet. Likewise, working remotely wasn’t developed overnight, and this started during the first adoption of the Internet in 1980. Before the Industrial Revolution: everyone worked out of their homes, skilled laborers such as carpenters, blacksmiths, tailors, and others.

After the Industrial Revolution: This led to the invention of automation, factories, and incentives for businesses to have offices and factories for their employees. Another Revolution is the growth of advanced technology, such as personal computers, the Internet, and wifi: The usual typical 8hrs workday in the office has now extended toward taking some of the workloads to home, which leads to remote work as we transition into personal computers such as laptops, phones, and tablets. Furthermore, as more people started to own personal computers, phones, and tablets, people connected their devices to the Internet, which paved the way for remote work. Nowadays, the Internet has changed how we conduct business, leading to the expansion of working from home. The same workloads being done at the office can be accomplished from home.

How do you work remotely and be productive using technology?

Why do you need to work remotely?

Disaster, epidemic, and unforeseeable situations

  • Epidemic (Covid-19) – the social distance
    • Many businesses shut down during this period
    • Employee laid off

The urgency of the business continuity plan

  • Downtime from the office and no plan, not able to work in the office for some reason
  • Backup plan for disaster recovery
  • Disaster recovery plan in case there is no access to the office
  • Failover plan for a business continuity plan

To optimize remote productivity and collaboration by adopting cloud

  • To be effective in working remotely, you have to use the right technology that works for you and your business
  • Be focused and stay on the plan. Productivity tools such as:

Security protection regarding working from home

Have security protection in place.

Working from home is unsafe to security flaws, and your working devices must be protected.

If you have sensitive information, you would need to have security protection in place, such as:

  1. VPN
  2. Firewall
  3. MFA or multifactor authentication Antivirus and anti-malware protection
  4. Avoid clicking on phishing URL links with your email. Take security protection training, such as cybersecurity protection training.

Why do you need to embrace cloud computing?

What is cloud computing?

  • If you use Gmail, Yahoo email, Facebook, Instagram, and online platforms, you already use cloud computing.
  • Cloud computing uses a network of remote computers and the internet to access information online.
  • Cloud computing makes computing resources easily accessible and affordable, and the best part is that it’s either free or paid.

Why do you need to adopt cloud computing?

  • The importance of being agile.
  • In other words, consistently providing continuous service to your customers.

The benefits of transformation into the cloud

Cloud Security Protection

Cloud security protection

With the rapid shift towards remote work, cloud computing has become essential for businesses to ensure business continuity. However, as more and more companies adopt cloud computing, it has become a target for cybercriminals. Therefore, cloud security protection is crucial to ensure the safety and security of sensitive data and prevent potential data breaches.
One of the main challenges of cloud security is the need for more physical control over the data. Data can be accessed from anywhere, making it more vulnerable to cyber-attacks. Therefore, it is essential to implement robust security measures, such as encryption, multi-factor authentication, and access controls, to protect the data.
Encryption is a process of encoding data so only authorized parties can read it. This ensures that even if the data is intercepted, it will be useless to the attacker. Multi-factor authentication, on the other hand, adds layer of security by requiring users to provide two or more pieces of evidence to verify their identity. Again, this prevents unauthorized access to the data.
Access controls are another critical aspect of cloud security. It allows businesses to define who can access the data and what actions they can perform on it. By restricting access to sensitive data to only authorized personnel, the risk of a data breach can be minimized.
In addition to these measures, regular security audits and updates should be conducted to ensure that the security protocols are up-to-date and effective. Employee training is also essential to educate them on the best practices for data security and how to avoid phishing attacks.
In conclusion, cloud security protection is critical to adopting remote work and cloud computing. By implementing robust security measures, businesses can ensure the safety and security of sensitive data and prevent potential data breaches. This, in turn, will enable companies to reap the benefits of cloud computing and remote work without compromising their security.

Transitioning into the cloud does not provide complete security protection, even though your computing resources are protected, but it is your responsibility to protect your data.

Access control

  • Restrict access to any critical data and cloud computing resources
  • Administrator and user access control(who, when, how they log in) track login
  • BYOD(bring your own devices access control) VPN and firewall

Cybersecurity protection

  • Antivirus and anti-malware protection Internet security protection
  • MFA – multi-factor authentication

Application protection
